James "Jim" Robert Callahan, 69 of Carmel, passed away February 23, 2019. He was born in Indianapolis on December 11, 1949 to the late Charles J. and Elizabeth Bracken Callahan. He graduated from Pike High School in 1969.
In 1976, Jim joined the City of Carmel Fire Department where he continued until his retirement in 1997.
As a young boy, Jim grew up learning strong work ethics and was an all-around good kid. He enjoyed working in the garden, growing some large tomatoes. Jim also appreciated his flower gardens as well. He loved to dance, especially country, but could really move to any and all styles.
Jim was a veteran of the US Army, having joined in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1974. He was a member of the Carmel VFW. Post 10003.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by siblings, Renee Trowbridge, Mary Platt Murray Calvin, Ruth Ann Callahan, Mike Callahan, Brenda Griffin, Steve Callahan, Stan Callahan and Cathy Sutphin; grandson’s, Jacob Westman and Levi Callahan.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Scott; children; Carla Newby, Jamie Callahan, Jody Fessell, Joanie Callahan, James R. Callahan II and Trevor Johnson; grandchildren, Lacey, Cameron, Kylie, Courtney, Corbin, Riley, Carson, Zachary, Hailey, Aiden, Arieana, Ashton, Lucy and Lilly; siblings, Doug (Luann) Callahan, Mark (Lynda) Callahan, Patrick (Jane) Callahan, Jeffrey Callahan, Lori (John) Moriarty and Kelly (Sean) O’Connell; several nieces and nephews; step-son, Travis Johnson and step-daughter, Cassie Johnson.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 10 am in Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 E. Main Street, Carmel, where the Funeral Service will begin at 1 pm.
Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery with Military Honors.
