James Edwin Rennard

James “Jim” E. Rennard, 84, of Carmel, Indiana, went to be in the arms of Jesus at 12:20 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2018.  At the time of his death, he was surrounded by members of his loving family.  He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 17, 1933 to the late Herbert and Dorothy Rennard.  He was considered to be the best husband, father, grandfather and friend by all who knew him.

Jim attended Broad Ripple High School.  He graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture.  Jim’s profession as an AIA Architect had him designing a number of banks, churches, schools, community centers, and jails. One of his largest design projects was a Salvation Army Camp located in Pinhook, Indiana.  He was instrumental in the structural design of the World’s Largest Christmas Tree on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis, which still delights families every year.

Jim was very active as a member of Broad Ripple United Methodist Church since 1958.  He was a member of the Trustees, Lay leader, Music Committee and more.  He sang in the chancel choir and also played English hand bells in the bell choir.  He was a long-time member of the Pride of Indy Barbershop Chorus and was a Masonic Mason.

Jim loved to travel and would go anywhere, any time.  He enjoyed camping and loved the cruises that He and Janeen were able to go on.  He was an avid fan of Nascar and spent a good portion of his weekends watching the races.  Sports and his dogs were of importance to him.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 64 years, Janeen Anderson Rennard; 6 children; Debra (Mike) Goldsmith, Jim (Angie) Rennard, Jr., David (Carrie) Rennard, Cheryl (Mark) Noll, Ellen (Kenny) Beckman, and Rebecca (Joe) Bitner.  From those 6 children came 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on March 21, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Broad Ripple United Methodist Church 6185 N. Guilford Ave Indianapolis.
