Welcome to the memorial page for

Grant W. Heffernan

July 10, 1929

Grant William Heffernan was born July 10, 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was the third of thirteen children. Two sisters survive him: Maxine (Vic) Scram and Joan Vore.

During his first semester of college, young men were being drafted into the military. Grant enlisted in the Navy and served from 1951-1954. This included time on the USS Cimarron and two and a half years in Guam.

Having met through mutual family friends, Grant and Cerobia were married on January 3, 1954, and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

They have three children: Karen Heffernan, Gary (Faith) Heffernan, and Beth (Neal) Hoard. Grant and Cerobia have five grandchildren: Jason (Jennifer) Heffernan, Alyssa (Stephen) Smith, Marcella Hoard, Elliott Hoard, and Autumn (Marcus) Zahran. His special joy in recent years was the arrival of his two great grandchildren; Jason Bryce and Adelyn Cerobia, son and daughter of Jason and Jennifer Heffernan.

Grant and Cerobia raised their family in Auburn Hills, Michigan, where he served on the Pontiac Fire Department for 32 years. They later enjoyed retirement in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, and Grant was instrumental in training its volunteer fire department. In 2004 they decided to move to Westfield, Indiana, to be near family.

He enjoyed playing baseball, golf, and table tennis. He had a relentless love for the University of Michigan and dedicated many afternoons and evenings to watching his favorite sports.

Grant enjoyed serving the Lord in all the cities in which he lived. He ministered in different capacities such as: choir member, deacon, and usher. Grant enjoyed investing in relationships with his church family.

Through the cities in which he lived, the churches in which he served, and the relationships he's built, Grant's passion for the Lord was evident. Even during his final days, he could be heard humming the tune to "The Old Rugged Cross."

In memory of Grant, donations can be given to Trinity Baptist Church - Missions Fund. Envelopes will be available at the service.
