Audrey Sheets Obituary

Audrey Juanita Sheets of Westfield, IN passed away unexpectedly December 15, 2019 at the age of 98.  She was born July 2, 1921 to Carl and Lola (Tash) Heinzman.  In 1940, Audrey was married to James Sheets until his passing in 1986.

Audrey’s roles were many, and she performed all of them well: daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, caregiver, family chef, quilt and crochet artist, gardener, canner, seamstress, valued confidant, and believer in Christ.  She was a woman who had grit and passion, which was evident in the way she cared for people through her hard work, her cooking, and her gift of gab.

As a young girl, Audrey was largely responsible for the care of her younger siblings.  She also aided her mother in the everyday cooking, cleaning, and housekeeping.  As an adult, she provided childcare in her home, forming lasting bonds with each of the children in her care.

One of her greatest joys came from cooking large quantities of delicious food for her family and other loved ones.  She was well known for her homemade noodles and grape pies.  In fact, she once showed great love for her entire church family by preparing ALL the noodles for the church’s annual chicken noodle dinner (in secret).

Audrey enjoyed the simple and regularly unappreciated art of being with people.  When visiting, she gave her undivided attention to each one making them feel special.  A visit with Audrey could last hours, but at the end of the visit, one felt entertained, loved, and warm from the newly crocheted afghan she lovingly gave as a gift.

Throughout the years, Audrey belonged to several homemaking clubs, as well as she enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband Jim, family members, and their many friends.

Audrey was a member of Westfield Friends Church, a frequent attender of Eagletown Evangelical Friends Church, and an active member of the United Society of Friends Women.

She is survived by her son, Steve Sheets of Noblesville; grandsons, Kevin Sheets (Shannon) of Noblesville and Jason Sheets of Westfield; great-grandson, Trey Sheets of Noblesville; brother, Mahlon Heinzmann of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Janet Sheets; brothers, Robert, Elwin, Owen, Joe and Kenneth Heinzman.  Audrey touched more lives than she knew or could ever understand.  She will be greatly missed!

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 3 pm in Eagletown Evangelical Friends Church, 18103 Eagletown Road, Westfield, where the Funeral Service will begin at 5 pm officiated by Pastor Steve Pedigo.
